Sean Walkinshaw is the next driver to be announced by Team West-Tec F3 for its 2013 European Formula 3 Open line up, having impressed in testing back in the late summer of 2012.
The 19 year old from Oxfordshire in the United Kingdom has had a busy year, racing primarily in BARC Formula Renault and the Intersteps series, and also making occasional appearances in the JK Racing and Indian MRF Championships, amongst others.
Walkinshaw will drive a Copa F308 Dallara for the Corby-based team, as it seeks to win back the crown achieved during 2011 season.
It´s worth to mention that his father Tom Walkinshaw founded TWR, and it became a very famous racing team for several decades. Tom Walkinshaw was also a successful touring car and endurance driver, participating with many different manufacturers during his career.
John Miller, Team West-Tec F3, explained: “I am delighted to welcome Sean to the team. He hasn't had the karting experience of some of his rivals, but he has had a busy year gaining experience, and impressed the whole team in testing with his speed, endurance and intelligence. I am sure he is going to do well, and with a healthy testing schedule, as well as the Winter Series before we start the 2013 Main Series, he will have the chance to add greatly to his experience”
On his side, Sean Walkinshaw said: “It’s great to have confirmed our plans for next year so early. I’ve already tested with West-Tec and it all went really well, the guys are great to work with, so I can’t wait to get our winter program underway. Euro F3 Open really has become one of the best Formula 3 championships around over the last few years, it’s very competitive and a fantastic place to learn and develop as a driver. F3 is the right step for me after two years in Formula Renault, plus we’ll be racing on some great international tracks”.
